Climbing Mount Kineo

Climbing Mount Kineo with family and friends whilst on our camping trip to Moosehead Lake has formed a distinct and beautiful memory that I will enjoy recalling one day when I am too old to take such rugged adventures on foot. Thoreau himself made this same climb to the mountain’s summit, which offers gifts of views that will literally take your breath away.To reach Mount Kineo, we took a shuttle across the channel to the base of the mountain, where we walked along an old carriage road with water views on one side, and the towering, rocky mountain on the other. The road met up with the steep, conifer-lined trails that took us up, and up, high into the mountain.Views from the summit make such strong imprints on the mind, the soul. I am still speechless…Do you see the bird flying in front of the girls? We were so high up, that small aircraft flew below us. We picnicked with our friends atop this glorious natural wonder and praised our children for their climbing skills. This view gave them a real sense of the feat they had just accomplished. When we stepped off the mountain back onto the old carriage road, we were greeted by the serenity of this scene…I hope you enjoyed your climb. Thank you for visiting. XO
