Foggy, gray mornings after rain entice me outdoors with camera in hand, macro lens attached. I look for spiderwebs coated with beads of reflective water and enjoy seeing the larger than life scenes that emerge as I look through the viewfinder, twisting the focus ring in and out until I find magic. I go back inside for a cup of pumpkin spice coffee and my 50mm lens. The autumnal colors look vibrant against the neutral gray backdrop. As I look through the lens, high up into the trees, I hear a familiar sound in the sky directly behind me. I recognize it as the strong flapping, churning wings of a goose. I don’t turn around; instead I aim the lens at the sky and wait for it to fly into view. When it does I take its picture and wonder, hope that this goose will find its way back to the flock.
The fog disappears into sun and blue sky. We enjoy a breakfast of farm fresh eggs topped with juicy red tomato and sweet Russian kale from our garden. The relaxed morning gives way to a flutter of activity. Market day, a friend’s birthday party (with face painting!), making chili and homemade bread, stacking wood, mending clothes, cleaning, and trying out a new cocktail in the evening… I call it the caramel apple. I’ll be sharing the recipe in my next post. Thanks for stopping by Lovelies! XO
