Camping with Friends on Moosehead Lake

The experience of camping, of living out in the woods for a few days, is uplifting, cleansing, and invigorating. As we set up camp in the woods, lakeside, I began to feel the edges of my being blur and merge with the trees, the pine-scented air, and the gentle rhythm of the water lapping against stone, worn smooth over centuries.  A log becomes a canoe and a young boy transforms into a chief. There are no screens, no distractions, only imagination and friendship.I take a quiet moment to read in the shade of the whispering pines, gazing frequently at the movement of water and light. The suppertime campfire begins to roar, crackle, and spit. Time for a quick evening swim underneath the sunset.Cheers! My Love and I enjoy the heavenly twilight view. The loons nearby begin to call to each other. Haunting beauty. Why is it that food always tastes so good when you are camping? Inside the tinfoil wraps are breakfast cinnamon buns nestled in hollowed-out orange halves. One of those buns and a mug of steaming hot java in the woods is… uhhhh! That good! There’s nothing quite like a morning bath in the lake, followed by some more reading, chatting, a leisurely second cup of coffee, and watching our kiddos fish. Since I am the person behind the lens in our family, I am not in many photos. I am fine with that, but every once in a while I hand my camera over to the Mister.:)We had some visitors. Mother duck and her babies came to breakfast. They are very comfortable around campers, and their food scraps.:)

In my next post I will share a batch of photos I took of our Mount Kineo climb. Breathtaking views! Thank you for stopping by. XO
