I own a May, 1956 copy of the magazine Horticulture: America’s Authentic Garden Magazine. The photos you see in this blog post were taken with my digital SLR camera in my garden during the golden hours of early evening, and reflect my digital darkroom efforts to replicate the aesthetic of the film camera shots contained within this vintage magazine’s pages. I am in love with the moody greens and darkened shadows, luscious lemons, burnt oranges, and classic film grain. There is something romantic, dreamy, nostalgic yet timeless about the style. marsh marigoldstulip & grape hyacinthwhite ground phloxA surprise inside this tulip. ** Pinterest has changed my world. Such beautiful things to discover, linger over, cook, make. It inspires and informs many aspects of my life — the way I decorate my home, fill it indoors and out with plants, create artful letters and gift wrappings for loved ones, snap photos, dress my body, mix drinks with real fruit, herbs (and good vodka). I learn about books like Sibella Court’s Nomad, art (this piece by Ryan Sarah Murphy for instance), and film (Finding Vivian Maier is a gem), which all have the power to transform. I find helpful quotes that resonate in my mind, give food for thought, and change patterns of thinking for the better, like “Worrying is literally betting against yourself.” ~anon. I discover places in the world I want to visit; the maze gardens at Ruspoli Castle in Lazio, Italy being one of them, and recipes for deserts like blackberry pavlova, strawberry rhubarb galette, and a lime curd tart with coconut whipped cream! I pin what I am drawn to. It’s fascinating for me to see that I have my own personal style (can’t think of a better way to express that) coming through so consistently, as I peruse through my boards and pins — a combination of my personal aesthetic and emerging tastes that come from the discovery of new things — new possibilities!
Lovely to have you stop by! XO
