The ground freezes deeply during wintertime in Maine, so as we begin the Spring thaw and birthing of new life, the snow and ice melts but cannot absorb into the earth until the lower levels of ground soften. Making for one big sloshy mushy muddy mess. This we call Mud Season. And believe it or not. I have grown to love it.
Mud boots. Mud room. If you have those two things, you can let go and embrace it!
To the Thawing Wind ~Robert Frost
Come with rain, O loud Southwester!
Bring the singer, bring the nester;
Give the buried flower a dream;
Make the settled snow-bank steam;
Find the brown beneath the white;
But whate’er you do to-night,
Bathe my window, make it flow,
Melt it as the ice will go;
Melt the glass and leave the sticks
Like a hermit’s crucifix;
Burst into my narrow stall;
Swing the picture on the wall;
Run the rattling pages o’er;
Scatter poems on the floor;
Turn the poet out of door.
For breakfast… farm fresh fried egg, avocado, tomato, fontina, parmesan, asiago, and provolone cheeses, salsa, cilantro, and sour cream on toast. Strong coffee.
We love being makers in this home. My Love made bread, both Saturday and Sunday. Slices of warm, fresh bread slathered in butter and homemade raspberry jam — soul food!Melt and pour soap, and clay play with my daughter…Red wine, enjoying the longer light of day stretching into the evening, bathing our home in westerly, golden light.
Some goodness for you:
I am a huge Woody Allen fan. Hubby and I enjoyed his flick Blue Jasmine over the weekend. Cate Blanchett is brilliant!
I’ve been healthy and sick-free all winter, and once spring sprung, so did my sinus infection. I’m not one to leap for drugs immediately, especially antibiotics. They’re my last resort. I have found a home remedy that actually works for sinusitis! One teaspoon of apple cider vinegar three times a day for a few days. I am on day two and it really seems to be working!
