Pixel Revolution Mobile Art Exhibit in London

It’s amazing! — this little thing called the iPhone — this device that slips into your pocket or purse, and can easily be held in the palm of a hand. I’m taking a moment right now to hold this techie tool and I am feeling a sense of awe at the capabilities and possibilities it offers for creating stunning images – art! In addition to taking photos with my DSLR camera, I have been taking photos with my iPhone for about a year and manipulating each mobile photo with multiple photography apps. My iPhoneography has taken on a style all its own, a bit edgier than what I normally post on my blog. I’ve been sharing my mobile art on Instagram (IG) and discovering countless talented artists from all over the world who are just as excited to share. This tiny phone has taken my art to a whole new level!…My iPhoneography work, her bare feet made an endless chain of prints,” is now part of PiXel RevOlution, a curated mobile art exhibit in central London’s Unit24 gallery, from Dec 5 – 21. The show will mark the launch of mObilepixatiOn, which is solely devoted to promoting mobile art. I couldn’t be at the exhibit opening in person, but I could connect in real time with fellow artists and viewers attending the show, with my — you guessed it — iPhone! — and the Instagram app. This is a stellar example of the good side of technology: technology + art = community. I met so many new people and was able to reconnect with folks from IG. I would like to send out a huge thank you to iphonehipsta (Marina) who created and curated the show, ikebana_jen (Jen) who assisted with curating The Wall of Dreams component of the show, and all others who helped with the details. Big applause for their hard work in making this event possible and for further establishing mobile art as a viable art form.

The two photos above were taken by the lovely Mel who is princess_meleia on IG. My piece is on the back wall in the left corner. Below are some shots from the event taken with; yup, mobile phones! One of my favorite images is the one of the woman taking a picture of mobile art with her mobile phone — that’s a lot of mobile phones involved in one shot:)! (see photo credits below)

Thank you IG friends! You made it possible for me to feel like I was at the opening of the exhibit. I look forward to seeing more of your mobile art and photography, and I invite my blog readers who “Instagram” to pay you a visit and show you some IG love!

Are you starting to think a little bit more about the creative possibilities that lie within your mobile phone? — I was hoping so:) It really is an incredible tool!
