solstice

It’s just after nine in the morning as I type this. The sun is low in the sky in Maine in December; the darkest month. It no longer crests the top of the pines. I will enjoy the way the light illuminates the forest floor outside my window — golden light that plays upon the fallen toasted cinnamon and cranberry-colored leaves and faded pine needles that blanket the hardening ground. Hot tea, a crackling fire in the woodstove, long shadows. Wool sweaters, flickering candles, singing along to holiday music, family board games and simple crafts. The anticipation of snow, and sweet bundled sleep nestled into the warm body of my lovely man. Stacks of books to get lost in, quiet, stillness, reflection. That is what Solstice means to me.

I have been enjoying the delicious Solstice Reflection posts at my friend Stephanie’s Creative Living Experiment blog. Take a moment to visit — you will feel yourself inhale a bit more deeply and slowly. Like a soul stretch. Thank you Stephanie for inviting me to participate.
